Main Event Entertainment – Warrenville, IL Review

Disclosure: I was invited to attend the preview event, which included complimentary food and attractions. However, all opinions are my own honest opinions.

#MEWarrenville

My family and I were invited to attend a preview event before the official opening of the newest Main Event Entertainment location in Warrenville, IL. We were excited to find out more about this entertainment center. Especially with the weather getting cooler, we are always looking for more indoor activities to add to our list.

About Main Event Entertainment:

Main Event Entertainment is a state-of-the-art entertainment destination that packs in tons of fun for everyone, all under one roof with cutting-edge bowling, multi-level laser tag, Gravity ropes, games, billiards and more. Main Event is the fastest growing family entertainment center in the U.S. The new Warrenville center located at 28248 Diehl Road is the 17th location nationwide and the first location in Illinois. Main Event is open on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight, Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.

My review:

First of all, I think they used the space very well to incorporate all of the things they have to offer. I like that there are multiple places where you can sit down and eat. On the lower level, there’s a dining area near the bar, billiards and bowling. There’s even a dining area on the side of the bowling alley, so you can catch all of the action! When the weather is nice, you can dine outside in the patio area. The food is reasonably priced, with kids’ meals starting at only $4.99. My favorite thing to eat there is the gelato – I’m partial to the chocolate one, but they have a good selection.

My family and I liked the arcade game section. There are games for all ages. Each of my kids, ages 6, 9, 10, and 11, were able to find games that were age-appropriate. My son and I battled it out in a hoop shoot game. There are even air hockey tables. You purchase FUNcards and reload them to play the games. Right above the arcade are the Gravity Ropes. This is the favorite attraction for me and my 11 year-old son. While harnessed, you can test out your balancing skills walking on a combination of ropes and steps suspended above the arcade section. I’ll admit, the first time I went up on the Gravity Ropes, I thought I would be braver, but the thought of walking on what looked like a tightrope, started to make my stomach drop a little. I ended up taking the paths with steps on them. However, my son flew through the whole course, taking a cue from Spiderman. The second time I went up, it was with my son and his friend, so I looked to them for a little guidance on how to conquer the ones I didn’t go on before and with their tips, I was able to go through the whole course. It really is a lot of fun!

Gravity Ropes #MEWarrenville

My kids did Laser Tag and they enjoyed it. They are given time slots, so it makes it easier for us to enjoy the rest of Main Event while waiting. From now through November 21st, they have a FUNbination special where you can pick your play on Sundays through Fridays. It’s only $5 for each unlimited activity and includes bowling, laser tag, billiards, mini golf, and gravity ropes. (Check here to find out the restrictions to the deal.) When you need a break, you can always visit the photo booth and have some fun photos taken. They have a wide range of backgrounds you can choose from and my family all picked different ones:

Main Event is also a great place to hold a birthday party or corporate event. The upstairs has multiple rooms for birthday parties. There is also a space for corporate events, complete with televisions to beam your presentations on – not to mention the separate bar area, which overlooks the Gravity Ropes and arcade area. There are also stylish lockers where you are able to store your party supplies and gifts during your party. They have packages suitable for all ages. My son is already planning to have his 12th birthday party there.

#MEWarrenville Party Rooms

Besides being fun for the guests, my favorite part of Main Event is that the staff also have fun. Periodically, they will break out into dance. During our visit, the staff started dancing to Cotton-Eyed Joe:

As you can see from the photo below, I recommend visiting the Main Event in Warrenville, IL, as a place where the whole family can have fun together.

Are You Prepared for Long Term Care?

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Genworth. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Genworth #LetsTalk Tour

Do you have a long term care plan in place? With all of the health issues that our family has endured this past year, we’ve started talking more about aging and the future. Especially with my parents getting older, it’s a topic that I would like to discuss more with them. They’ve told me their plans for when they die, but we’ve never really touched on the topic of long term care as they grow older.

Seeing what the annual care costs on the Let’s Talk site has really opened my eyes. For example, the 2014 Illinois state median annual cost of a private room in a nursing home is $74,463, with the cost continually increasing. Our plan is to help take care of my parents and my in-laws as they age, but I know that my husband and I are not in a position financially to take on that type of annual expense when the time comes. Opening up the discussion will help us all transition into those years by having a plan of action.

Some helpful tools that are on the Let’s Talk website that can help in the discussion and planning are:

- How to start the talk about long term care

- Planning for long term care

- Cost of care map

As a parent, I know that this topic is something my husband and I are going to discuss so we can make sure that when the time comes, our children will know how our long term care will be paid and what type of long term care we would like for us. It’s not an easy topic to think about, but ever since Jim’s stroke last year, we’ve been discussing these types of things more. The one thing we both agree on is that it helps to have a plan of action in place. Not only is it important for the individual, it’s also important for the loved ones around them.

The Genworth Let’s Talk Tour stopped at the Taste of Chicago earlier this month and here’s some highlights from the event:

The Genworth Let’s Talk Tour has a few more stops coming up, so if you are in these areas, be sure to stop by and see them for more information:

- August 30-September 1: Los Angeles, CA

- September 6-7: San Francisco, CA

- October 2-5: Dallas, TX

Let us know how you are managing your long term care plans.

Staycation Idea: 10 Fun Family Summer Activities

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, I am a Kmart blogger, though all opinions are my own.

#KmartSummerFun

Summer has always been the time when my family and I like taking advantage of being outside and having fun. Especially in Chicago, where we can get some pretty wicked winters, we relish any time we can spend outside without having layers upon layers of clothes on us. It’s also a time when I feel like a kid again when I get out there with my kids. Just some of our favorite things to do outside in the summer are:

1. Go swimming – Whether it’s in an inflatable pool in our backyard or at a waterpark, my kids love to go swimming. They’ll spend most of the day in there until either they are called inside or the waterpark closes.

#KmartSummerFun Pool

2. Ride our bikes – My kids ride their bikes to visit friends. Our neighborhood also has an annual 4th of July celebration where the kids decorate their bikes and have a parade following a fire truck. It’s so much fun to watch!

#KmartSummerFun Motorized Bike

3. Play at the playground – My kids love to play on the swings, monkey bars, and generally just run around. Lately, we’ve been watching the show, “American Ninja Warrior,” so they like to pretend that they are competitors going through the obstacle courses. Playgrounds are fun because they are for all ages, from babies to adults.

#KmartSummerFun Playground

4. Have a water balloon fight – This is the best way to cool off when the temperatures get high. It’s also the best way to settle any sibling disputes going on at the moment.

5. Set up the slip ‘n slide – With just a hose and the slip ‘n slide, my kids can spend hours and hours outside. It brings back memories of when I was a kid and doing the same thing during the summer!

#KmartSummerFun Slip 'n Slide

6. Draw with sidewalk chalk – My kids’ friends love to come over and all of them decorate our sidewalk with their artwork. They love to leave messages for us. After it rains, it becomes a new canvas and they start all over again.

7. Play in a bounce house – This is also something that appeals to all ages. I can’t tell you how many times the adults have asked the kids politely to get out of the bounce house (okay, they were kicked out), so the adults could bounce, too!

#KmartSummerFun Bounce House

8. Do science experiments – These are best done outside because if there is some kind of explosion or mess, you aren’t trying to get it off of your walls or floor. One of our favorite ones to do is the soda and Menthos one. A note of caution: make sure you step way, way back before it erupts!

9. Make crafts – We set out long rolls of paper with markers and paint and just let the kids have at it. One of my goals this summer is to do some of the DIY furniture painting outside that I keep seeing on Pinterest (let’s see if I actually have time for that by the time this summer is over).

#KmartSummerFun Face Painting and Crafts

10. Get in the sand – Whether it’s in a sandbox or at the beach, my kids love to create new things in the sand. They’ll use their hands or a bucket full of beach tools and come up with some amazing creations.

#KmartSummerFun Sand

The best thing about the activities above is that you don’t have to break the bank to do them! You can find some awesome deals at Kmart Hot Deals sale page right now, including pools, sandboxes, swing sets, slip ‘n slides, water guns, and more. It’s good to have some #KmartSummerFun!
