My family and I like to watch the home renovation shows, so much so that my youngest daughter asks “Are they going to love it or are they going to list it?” even if it’s not THAT show. When we purchased our current home, we thought it would be our in-between home, after our townhome and before a bigger home. However, with the housing market the way it is and our kids growing older, we’ve realized that we will probably end up staying in this home for quite a while. That being said, we’re always looking for ways to spruce it up, change the look, and eventually, add another bedroom (or two), and possibly another bathroom to it. Having watched the home renovation shows, we know that you can either do it yourself (DIY) or hire a contractor to do it. Either way, you’ll definitely want to check out Floor & Decor for your project needs.

I had the opportunity to visit their newest location in Skokie, IL, and take a tour with one of their designers, Cynthia. One tip I have for you if you are planning on visiting Floor & Decor is to make sure you give yourself a lot of time to walk around and see everything they have to offer. It’s amazing to see the wide selection they carry for everything from sinks to flooring. My favorite thing about Floor and Decor is that they have designers for you to utilize while you are at the store, and the service is free. They can help you plan your project and work with you and your contractor to find what you need to complete your projects. They also offer great tips and suggestions to help your project go more smoothly.

Here’s Cynthia sharing a great time-saving tip when putting up your bathroom walls:

These are just a few of the things that I enjoyed checking out while I was there:
– Sinks (they have a fabulous red sink – my favorite color)
– Outlet plates (I never knew there could be so many different styles and colors out there)
– Tiles (in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures)
– Flooring (also in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures – my favorite one is the easiest to install and looks like wood, but is actually laminate)
– Products made in the USA (you can easily find these throughout the store because they are packaged in green boxes)

The Chicagonista LIVE! show was on location there and some bloggers, including me, were invited to share one of our favorite products at Floor & Decor. Watch the episode to find out what I chose! They also featured some tips from Floor & Decor experts, a fun science experiment with Kim Moldofsky of The Maker Mom, and a few other goodies.

Plus, Erin Skibinski of Everyday Home and I couldn’t resist having a little fun while we were checking out the different setups at Floor & Decor. The good news is that you could do this, too, while you are there! They encourage you to try out the different things so you can imagine yourself in those settings.

One main goal for our household in 2014 is to somehow keep our house clean with all of our busy schedules. We know that for some of you, this may also be a resolution for the new year, so we’d love to share with you 5 easy cleaning tips to make it more of a reality:

1. Take just 15 minutes of your day and pick one area to do a quick clean. Set the timer and see how much you can accomplish. You can either create a schedule for which area you will cover on which days or have some fun with it. With our kids, we are going to have them pick out slips of paper from a jar that will be their responsibility to clean for the day.

2. We like to use cleaning products that are portable and versatile. For example, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser comes in a variety of sizes, including a select-a-size version and you can use it on various surfaces. It’s even easy enough for our children to use.

3. Use a cleaner that has a refreshing scent to it, like Febreze, so that you can kill two birds with one stone. You’ll have a clean space, and it will smell nice and fresh!

4. You can use a big vacuum for intensive cleaning when needed. We love our Dyson, especially when we do a deep clean. However, for everyday cleaning and maintenance, using a portable or handheld vacuum makes it easier to accomplish. Our 6-year old daughter is even able to help us out because it’s not too heavy for her to use.

5. If you have multiple levels to clean, keep a set of cleaning products, like Mr. Clean’s Liquid Muscle Liquid Gel. You can use it on a variety of surfaces and depending on what you are cleaning, you can either dilute it or use the full strength directly on a sponge. Here’s me cleaning our bathroom sink with it:
