DonorsChoose.org & Savings.com – Matching Donation Program Through 2/24

As a Savings.com DealPro, we are so excited to be able to share with you this very special campaign they have going on with DonorsChoose.org! If you have not heard of DonorsChoose.org before, it is an innovative online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. We hear in the news all the time about how teachers sometimes have to dig into their own pockets to get supplies for their class projects, all to help give their students a better education. This is a way to be able to give back to your community and support a deserving project!

One thing we love about being a DealPro is that Savings.com is also passionate about thinking about others and giving back. Savings.com is helping make your money go further when you give back to a school in need in the new year! Use the gift code “SAVINGS” through tomorrow, February 24th, on Donors Choose and they will match your donation up to $100.

More about DonorsChoose.org: Approximately 40 percent of schools across the U.S. use DonorsChoose.org, an innovative online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers across the country post specific requests to support their classroom projects, ranging from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class. Visitors to the website decide which project they would like to support and DonorsChoose.org delivers materials to the school once a project reaches its funding goal.

Here are some suggested tips on how to navigate through the site to find the perfect project:
Get local – Use their location filter to find projects in your state or hometown.
Get inspired – What are you passionate about? The environment? Water color painting? A book you’re reading? Narrow projects by subject area, or search for what you care about in the keyword box.
Get choosy – Sort your search results by cost, poverty level, or popularity…whatever matters most to you.

If you are a teacher, we encourage you to submit your projects to DonorsChoose.org so that others can contribute funds to them.  After submitting your project, share it with your students’ parents, friends, family, and the community.  If you are a parent, we encourage you to see if your children’s teachers have submitted a project and contribute to it. If you are a community member, we encourage you to step forward and help students get the best education they can with your help!

Let us know if you have a project on DonorsChoose.org that could use some help in contributions by adding the link below.  We’d love to spread the word to our readers.  Also let us know if you contributed to something on DonorsChoose.org so that we can give a shout out for that as well.

How are we contributing to DonorsChoose.org is by donating to a project in our school district. We are also passing the information on to the teachers so they can submit their projects.

Every Thursday, we’d like to spotlight a way that you can give back and help others, as well as have you share how to “think about others” and make a difference!

In honor of Veterans Day on Friday, we are sharing Coups For Troops with you today. If you ever wondered what to do with your expired coupons, now you have somewhere you can send them to AND helps others in the process! Coups For Troops was created by a stay-at-home mom that was using coupons to save money on her family. She wanted to support families by making it easier for them to save money by shipping coupons directly to their doors. Since commissaries overseas accept manufacturer’s coupons up to six months their past expiration date, your “old” coupons can help those military families.

It’s easy to get involved with Coups For Troops. You can visit their website and read their FAQ’s to find out the answers to the most popular questions. The best part is that you don’t have to sort or tally them before sending them (just make sure it only includes the acceptable coupons in the FAQ’s).

Here are the different ways of getting your expired coupons to the troops:
– Send it directly to a military family overseas by using their “Direct Mail” program – get matched to a specific family.
– Send it to a satellite location and they will take care of the rest.
Drop off your coupons at a drop-off site and they will ship your coupons to recipients overseas.

To save money on shipping, you can also organize a get-together with your family and friends who coupon and consolidate your coupons into one package. This is also a great way to get your kids involved by having them help you cut out the expired coupons and explaining to them how it well help other families.

Get started with sending your Coups For Troops!
