You’re Not Alone – Free Sample of Depend Silhouette Active Fit

Depend Silhouette Active Fit #Underwareness

The first thing I want to tell you is that you’re not alone. It used to be a taboo thing to talk about – bladder leakage. However, it comes up in conversations with friends and what I’ve found out is that we’re not alone. I recently turned 45 and with also having had four children, my body has changed. I sometimes experience bladder leakage and am looking for bladder leakage protection options. Did you know that more people with bladder leakage are 50 or younger than 60 or older? Did you also know that more people with bladder leakage are in their 20’s than their 80’s?

You no longer have to be afraid to wear Depend because Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs are:

• With a lower rise, Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs both fit and feel like real underwear.
• Available in both black and beige colors, you can wear Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs beneath your clingy, fashionable and cool clothing while still looking and feeling amazing!

Depend is entering year three of Underwareness, a social movement and charitable cause to break down the bladder leakage stigma. As part of Underwareness, the Depend brand is encouraging people to show their support for women with bladder leakage. For every photo and video shared using #Underwareness and featuring Depend products, the Depend brand will donate $1, up to $3 million, through 2016 to fund charities that advance the research and education of bladder leakage.

Plus, you can request a free sample of Depend Silhouette Active Fit when you visit www.Underwareness.com to support the cause .

World Stroke Day – What You Need to Know About Strokes

Stroke FAST

Today is World Stroke Day and sharing information about it is something that is important to me and my family. My husband had a stroke last May and our family has been forever changed because of it. We were on vacation when it happened. He had always been a pretty healthy person – doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink, etc., so it came as quite a surprise to us when it happened. He had a hemorrhagic stroke, losing all feeling on one side of his body, and affecting his speech. Through almost a year of intensive physical, speech, and occupational therapy, he is doing a lot better. However, he still has weakness in one of his legs, so he now walks using a cane. We, as a family, have grown closer because of the experience and have learned how to pitch in to do the physical things that he may not be able to do right now. I’ve always appreciated my husband and I appreciated him even more when I ended up having to do the snow blowing and shoveling during our terrible winter last year. Our kids have had to make adjustments on what they knew as our life before the stroke. I am very grateful that my husband has kept a positive attitude and has willed himself to do the things needed to continue his recovery process. I am also grateful that our kids have been strong, patient, and loving throughout everything they’ve experienced in their young lives. We also appreciate the support we have received from family, friends, and strangers, that made our lives easier as we navigated through the changes in our lives. We know that this is a long-term recovery process and are ready for the journey ahead.

Here’s what my husband looked like the day after his stroke and what he looks like today. Someday I’ll have time to sit down and write a post about the time in between and what it took for him to get from point A to point B.

Jim's Then and Now

Whenever we have a chance to spread the word about Stroke Awareness, we do, because we know that time is crucial to someone that has a stroke. Make sure you know these signs of a stroke (FAST):
– Face droops.
– Arm drifts.
– Speech slurs.
– Time is critical. Make sure to call 9-1-1 immediately when you see these signs.

It’s also important for you to know about stroke’s devastating impact and how to reduce your risk. Watch these two videos from the National STROKE Association for more information:

Have you been affected by stroke? We’d love to hear your story.

Soup’s On! Fundraiser with the Rotary Club of Naperville on 10/19

Disclosure: Images provided by The Rotary Club of Naperville. This post has been compensated by The Rotary Club of Naperville and its advertisers. All opinions are my own.

#SoupsOn14

You probably know someone who is going through a difficult time financially right now. It could be due to the economy, job loss or change, health reasons, divorce, or any of a variety of reasons. It’s good to know that there are organizations that can help in your time of hardship. Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry is an organization that helps residents in the Naperville area and DuPage county with food assistance. Households outside of that area may receive a one-time emergency distribution. I took a tour of Loaves & Fishes and was able to see how they run the pantry. They have it laid out like a grocery store, so when people come in, they can have that experience, plus they offer some personal care items also, which is so helpful to many households. I know they can use any help with donations or funds to stock their pantry so they can help as many families as possible. When you attend Soup’s On!, a portion will go back to them.

About Soup’s On!:

On Sunday, October 19th, the Rotary Club of Naperville will be hosting “Soup’s On!”, a fun, family focused fundraiser featuring great entertainment and plenty of delicious food. Benefitting Hesed House, DuPage PADS, Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry and the Rotary Club of Naperville Charities, the concept of “Soup’s On” ties in with the theme of a “soup kitchen” and feeding people in need – a goal of these three not-for-profit organizations.

Over 30 local restaurants will be serving soups, stews, chili, chowders, and BBQ as well as artisan cheeses, specialty bread and yummy deserts. There will also be a specific children’s menu available. Guest will be treated to live entertainment by students from Districts 203 and 204. In addition, “Soup’s On!” will also have a children’s activity area sponsored by the DuPage Children’s Museum, and a silent auction.

How to purchase tickets:

The event is from 11:30am – 3:30pm at Naperville Central High School located at 440 Aurora Avenue in Naperville. Tickets are $45 for adults, $35 for seniors 65+ and military personnel, $10 for children 6-12, and children under 5 are free. You can purchase tickets by going to Soups On Rotary and selecting “Purchase Tickets” from the left side of the home page.

Free Bra Fitting and Bra Donation – Vanity Fair LiftTour with Dress for Success

Disclosure: I received a complimentary Vanity Fair bra while attending the #LiftTour Blogger Event. However, all opinions are my own, honest opinions.

Vanity Fair #LiftTour #WomenWhoDo

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit the Vanity Fair LiftTOUR at their stop at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL. I’m very inspired by their mission to help women with their partnership with Dress for Success. Watch this video to find out more about their mission:

When you visit a stop during the LiftTOUR, you will have the opportunity to get a free bra fitting. Just for stopping in for your free bra fitting, Vanity Fair will donate a brand-new bra to the local Dress for Success affiliate. The beautiful thing is that you will be able to write a note of inspiration and encouragement to the person receiving the donated bra. Here’s what I wrote:

Donated Bra

It was so easy to get fitted for a bra and in all honesty, a little less intrusive than the last time I was fitted for a bra. The Vanity Fair Fit Experts are very knowledgeable and can help you with making sure you have the correct size so that you can be comfortable in your bra. There are also comfortable seats on the bus so if you have to wait for your turn, it is a pleasant wait.

#LiftTOUR #WomenWhoDo

Bra Fitting

What inspires me most about this initiative is hearing from the women that will benefit the most from us taking the time out of our busy schedules to get a free bra fitting (which we should do anyway), so please take a few minutes to watch this video to learn more about just one of the women you’ll impact:

Think About Others: Immunizations and Walgreens Get a Shot, Give a Shot® Program

Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #GiveaShot #CollectiveBias #shop

#GiveaShot #CollectiveBias

It’s that time of the year again – back to school! Along with that are many parents, including myself, who need to make sure that their kids’ immunizations and required vaccines are up-to-date. My son needs a shot to be up-to-date, so I made an appointment at the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic to get his done.

What I love is that Walgreens has a program going on right now that when your child gets their back-to-school immunization there, they’ll help provide a lifesaving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign. Visiting the Shot@Life site, it was eye-opening to me to see that in other parts of the world, one child dies every 20 seconds from a disease that could be prevented with a vaccine. This program is such an easy way to give back to the world and have something done that is needed for your own family.

It was pretty easy to find out which Walgreens locations in my area have a Healthcare Clinic in them. All I had to do was go on Walgreens.com, select the store locator, and select “Healthcare Clinic” under “Popular Services.” It came up with a good-sized list of locations, one of which is only a few minutes away from me. I was also given the option to make an appointment online, which I love. However, Walgreens makes it quick and easy because no appointment is needed. Walk-ins are welcome. They also accept most insurance. I had called the phone number listed on the website because I couldn’t find an appointment time that worked well for us. The person that answered my call was able to schedule an appointment and check to see if our insurance is accepted. It’s good to know that ahead of time so you can prepare for your out-of-pocket cost. Luckily, our insurance is accepted and the immunizations are fully covered under our plan. I also found out that the Walgreens pharmacists will report back to our primary care physician so our records can be fully updated.

When we arrived at our Walgreens location, it was pretty easy to find where the Healthcare Clinic was located in the store. There were huge banners hanging from the ceiling that led us to it.

#GiveaShot #CollectiveBias

Our clinic was located in the back corner near the pharmacy. Once we got to Healthcare Clinic, the sign in process was very easy. Since we had scheduled an appointment, all I had to do was look up the appointment and sign in.

#GiveaShot #CollectiveBias

Also, while I was waiting, I saw the sign which showed the “Get a Shot, Give a Shot” campaign. It also had more information about ways to stay healthy.

#GiveaShot #CollectiveBias #shop

Unfortunately, on this day, I had a bit of a mom fail. I forgot to bring the rest of my son’s immunization records so they could give him the other shot he needed. I didn’t realize I needed it with me. However, I will be sure to bring him back once I have that in hand since I know how easy the process was to do and how it will also be an opportunity for Walgreens to donate an immunization to someone who may otherwise never receive one.

Visit your local Walgreens Healthcare Clinic to find out more about this program and everything else they have to offer your family to stay healthy throughout the year.
