Our 3 Favorite Baby Products from the Chicago Baby Show

We attended the Chicago Baby Show at Navy Pier and found out about some great products for new parents or those looking for gift ideas for parents. Our favorite products there are:

1. North States Superyard Colorplay for Baby

We used a version of the North States Superyard with each of our kids and it was such a big help to us. We were able to keep the kids safely within the gates with their toys while we were cooking dinner or doing some other household chores. It is also perfect to keep at the grandparents’ or babysitter’s home since it folds up easily. You can also use it outdoors. The perks of the North States Superyard are its portability, variety of colors, and definitely the locking mechanism.

2. Bloom Alma Mini Solid Wood Crib

When we first saw the Bloom Alma Mini Solid Wood Crib, we thought about all of the possibilities with this crib. It’s perfect for small spaces, especially if you live in an apartment or want a crib in your bedroom. It’s also space-saving if you need multiple cribs in one space. The best feature of the crib is the ability to fold it up and store it. Since it doesn’t take up too much room when it’s folded, it’s also convenient to have at the grandparents’ or babysitter’s home. When you have guests visiting with babies, you can use this and store it easily afterwards.

3. Bloom Fresco Chrome Special Edition High Chair

The look of high chairs and baby products have definitely changed since our oldest child was born 14 years ago. For example, style and design has become a big part of baby products. Nothing showcases this better than the Bloom Fresco Chrome Special Edition High Chair

. If you have this for a high chair, you can be guaranteed that it will be a gorgeous focal point in your home. Besides its beauty, it has functionality, such as the ability to recline the chair and the ability to adjust the chair all the way to breakfast bar height.

There were so many other brands at the Chicago Baby Show offering useful baby products, but too many to share in one post. Check out the other exhibitors here and let us know which ones are your favorites!

Special thanks goes to the MomTrends Blogger Lounge where we filmed our favorite finds.

Celebrations with Blue Bunny Ice Cream Cakes & Coupon

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions are our own, honest opinions.

Celebrations are made so much better with cake! Recently, we celebrated Father’s Day with Jim, my dad, and my brother, along with my mom’s birthday. Our family loves ice cream cake, so we brought along a couple of them to mark these special occasions.

It was enjoyed by everyone, from the kids to the adults! Their favorite was the Bunny Tracks Ice Cream Cake. Don’t let the size of the cake fool you – we were able to feed 14 people with just two cakes. They were incredibly filling. We will definitely get it again for other occasions (or maybe just for dessert).

What Drives Her Luncheon and Panel Highlights

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own, honest opinions. #WhatDrivesHer

Women make up half of all car buyers. At the What Drives Her luncheon and panel, we listened to a group of experts in the automotive industry, including:
– Candice Crane from Hireology
– Kathy Gilbert from CDK Global
– Jody Hall from Steel Market
– The panel was moderated Bridget Brennan of the Female Factor
– The luncheon and panel was hosted by She Buys Cars

With women driving 70%-80% of consumer household spending and the fact that there are more women drivers than men, they shared with us how automakers are taking this into consideration when designing their cars. The fascinating thing was listening to them share how the industry has changed over the years, both for female employees and female consumers. They shared how there are many opportunities for women in the automotive industry. A key takeaway from Kathy Gilbert is for women to nurture their relationships in their careers.

Afterwards, we were invited to check out the #SteelMatters Concept and Technology Garage. There, we were able to test drive some of the newest cars.

Chicago Auto Show Recap

Chicago Auto Show

It’s Chicago Auto Show time again in the Windy City and every year, it just seems to get better. This year is no exception. I had the opportunity to walk the floor during media preview day (before the large crowds descended) as a guest of She Buys Cars, Hyundai and Genesis. The one thing that really stood out to me is how they’ve really incorporated more family-friendly activities throughout the show floor, so if you’ve hesitated to attend the Chicago Auto Show with your kids – don’t worry, there are things to do and see that will keep them happy and occupied.

CAS Play Area

This play area is part of the Chrysler Pacifica booth.

LEGO Batmobile

This is a lifesized Batmobile made from LEGOs.

Variety of Automobiles:

Another thing worth noting is the variety of vehicles you will see at the Chicago Auto Show. Whether you are interested in compact cars, pickup trucks, speedsters or family vehicles, you’ll find it all there. You can climb into some of the vehicles and see how it would feel to ride in it. You can also take some of the vehicles for a test drive. There are test tracks where you’ll feel how it’s like to be in the car through different driving situations, like up a steep hill or around a sharp curve.

New Technology:

What I noticed the most is how many automakers are including the technology trends in their newest car models. For example, when we visited with Hyundai, they showed us how the new Hyundai Elantra models are able to communicate with your Amazon Alexa. Imagine talking to your Amazon Alexa to start your car and have it set to a certain temperature before you even take a step into your car!

Safety First:

As a busy mom, I also appreciate how safety has become a top priority for many automakers. For example, some have added more cameras around the body of the car so you can see obstructions on the sides and front, not just behind you. Since my oldest will be driving in just a couple of years, it gives me peace of mind that automakers are trying to develop ways to keep drivers safe when either the car senses that you are drifting out of the lane you should be in or someone in the lane next to you is drifting too close to you.

Visit the Toyota Drive Center to take your own ride through this course.

At the Chicago Auto Show, you’ll also have the chance to see luxury car models and concept cars. Some of my favorites are the Genesis G90 and G80.

She Buys Cars:

We were lucky to walk the show with Scotty Reiss of She Buys Cars. She is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cars, so she shared commentary on the different brands and car models. Check out these Facebook live videos:

While you are at the Chicago Auto Show, make sure to stop by State Farm and check out their tiny roadhouse that is part of a pickup truck. You’ll be amazed at how much they fit into this tiny space.

Buy Tickets:

Visit the Chicago Auto Show’s website to buy tickets. The show runs until Monday, February 20th at McCormick Center.

Our review of the Sprint plan:

We’ve been using the new Samsung Galaxy S7 from Sprint in the Chicago-area for about a month now. We have been very pleased with the service. We’ve found that coverage has been pretty solid whether we’re in our home, in another indoor location, outdoors or while on the road.

Since we are starting to have more cell phone users in our household, we are definitely looking for ways in which to maximize our cell phone budget. With Sprint’s plans, it may be our best solution!

Recently, I was invited to attend the Sprint Chicago Regional Event at Sprint’s Chicago office. I was very curious to see and hear about what they are doing now because many years ago, I had friends who were unhappy with their service. What I learned is that they are undergoing network changes and device updates to make sure that their customers are getting the best service. Besides building new cell towers, they are also making improvements to their existing ones. They have a lot of coverage in the Chicago-area and are constantly looking for ways to make it even better. Their services even include Sprint’s Direct 2 You with free delivery of your phone to you (at home, at work, at your child’s soccer game) – what a great time-saver.

Having six people in our home that rely a lot on technology, what really interested me the most during the event was the variety of prepaid plans. The one I think may work well for my family is the Virgin Data Done Right package that is exclusively available at Walmart. With that package, you receive a smartphone, plus an unlimited talk, text, and data plan with no contract needed. You pay as you go. The biggest perk is that you can purchase additional Virgin Data Done Right packages and link up your accounts. Unlike other “family plans” out there, with this one, you have a primary account holder that controls the data plan. Instead of needing to buy a separate data plan per phone, you can purchase a plan for the entire group of phones and divide up the plan accordingly. For example, if you have your kids on the plan and you are the primary account holder, you control how much data they can use. You can use this as a reward or chore earning system where they can earn more data as they complete chores or exhibit good behavior. You can also use it if they are not behaving as they should by decreasing the amount of data they can use (possibly to zero if needed). Since you do this all through an app, it should be easy to make these adjustments as needed. Imagine having that power!

#SprintMom #MoveForward

At the end of the event, we were each given an LG G4 smartphone with Sprint service. It is a sleek looking phone with a leather backing. The screen is very bright and easy to view. The camera takes excellent quality photos. It is the first smartphone from Sprint with a total of 24 megapixels of crisp photo clarity – a 16MP rear-facing camera and an 8MP front-facing selfie camera. The LG G4 also comes pre-loaded with the latest Android software – Lollipop 5.1. It really is loaded with many features that make it an impressive phone. My kids have watched videos and played games on it. The call quality and texting capability is great. You should consider it for your next phone.

Walgreens Healthcare Clinics in Chicago Area Offer School and Sports Physicals

[tweetherder]It’s only $39 for a #BTS physical at a @walgreens #HealthcareClinic! #shop #cbias[/tweetherder]

#HealthcareClinic #cbias #shop

For back-to-school, as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias® I visited Walgreens Healthcare Clinic to check out the school and sports physicals they offer. With my kids going back to school soon, I needed to get some school physicals done. Since we have not switched to a closer pediatrician and ours is 45 minutes away, I was glad to hear that Walgreens offers an alternative to having to make an appointment with our doctor and driving back and forth that distance.

The first thing I did before even heading out to my nearest Walgreens Healthcare Clinic is to go to their website to find out more information about what the clinic offers and to find out what I needed to bring to the school physical. While I was on the site, I saw that the Healthcare Clinic offers many other services. There was even a comparison of what the Walgreens Pharmacy and the Walgreens Healthcare Clinics offer. That’s good to know since the Healthcare Clinics are only in certain locations. During this back-to-school period, the school and sports physicals are only $39 (regulary $60). Once I knew that, I decided to find my nearest Walgreens location with a Healthcare Clinic and schedule an appointment.

Unfortunately, there were no appointments available in the locations nearest to me in the next few days. It would have been very helpful to have an appointment, but I decided to check on the wait times available. I was surprised to see that each of the locations near me was showing a wait time of over 2 hours. I tried to call my nearest Healthcare Clinic to find out exactly what paperwork we needed to bring with us because if we were going to have to wait for over 2 hours, I did not want to find out that we were missing anything needed to complete the school physical. I did not get a live person on the phone to answer my questions.

I tried again for the next few days at different times to see if the wait times were less, but for the locations near me, they were always over 2 hours when I checked. By the time I was able to get to my nearest Walgreens Healthcare Clinic, it was already closed. However, I took a look around the area and was impressed with it’s look and feel. I went to the kiosk to see if I maybe there were more available appointment times for the following day by using the kiosk. When I got to the screen for scheduling appointments, it did show some open time slots in the next 2-4 days. However, when I went to click on any of them, no appointment times opened up. I guess I will have to try again when there is someone present at the help desk.

Overall, my experience trying to get my children’s school physicals done at a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. It seems that the locations near me were just very busy during this time frame. It was difficult to schedule an appointment as timeslots were not available and the walk-in wait times were typically over 2 hours. I wish that it would have been easier to find out the exact paperwork we needed to bring in (like school forms, immunization records, etc.) so that if we had to wait for 2+ hours, it would not be a waste of time if we found out that we were missing something. I was not able to take my children for their school physicals there as a result.

I do see the benefit for those who are new to an area and do not have a primary doctor to use the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic for their sports and annual school physicals. It’s also a good alternative for those who have to work late and can’t get to a doctor during their office hours.

Have you visited a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic to get your sports and annual school physicals done? How was your experience?

Please check out my Google+ album for more photos of my experience at the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic.
